Obviously I was drawn to the Artifacts not only because of the good music, but the graff connection. A lot of artists in hip hop use graff for logos and videos to look down but can’t name 5 current writers. So many use graff but Tame was the real deal, he didn’t use it, he did it. Did graff, made great music w El, and also made great solo music including one of the best graffiti songs of all time, Homage To The Bomberz.
El Da Sensei’s voice is the first person you hear on my first Ground Original album doing a drop. I really wanted an Artifacts feature. Didn’t happen until around 13 years later. El recorded for me and then I reached out to Tame. Tame was not aware of my graff background only the DJ stuff. We spoke, i was thrilled, he recorded a verse dropping all these nostalgic old school things we kind of talked about somewhat. Sounds similar to a verse on the new album. I am forever thankful he helped me complete an Artifacts feature on my It Is What It Isnt album. Eclipse contacted Reef for me and he was also on that song.
I probably should have reached out and invited him to one of our walls to paint. Instead I did this fairly wack quick drawing in my ipad. It’s something, maybe I will do a real one on a wall/train.
I promised myself I would stop posting rest in peace when people pass. It’s too much, it’s constant n everyone does it anyway. This one is different because it’s someone who inspired some of us in a few ways. My condolences to El, their family, and friends.
This is NOT about me, please do not comment sorry for my loss. This is about our community losing someone who we love what he contributed to our culture. Go play The Artifacts, go buy something from a REAL graff writer.
